REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY
01.22.08 (2:47 am) [edit]Yesterday ,the 21st of January Americans celebrated Martin Luther King Day.This was a man known not only for his orature (a modern day Aristotle),but also for for his efforts in eliminating racism amd segragation in America.
Yesterday as friends and colleaugues spoke of this greate leader with passion and happiness,I experienced reverse psycholoy. You see I became qute sad .I began to see myself as a foreigner and more so with with shame. In my ntive country there is no graqet leader who has shown any trace of Dr King. With all the hullaballoo of hoe grat he was,I was however transfixed on how he emphasised paece in his marches.
Leaders from my country mainly from the Opposition were frustrated with the election outcome. They felt it had been rigged in their disfavour.Solution-to engage in mass protests. These protests involved the poor and illiterate youth pelting stones at the police and anyone in between as well as torching houses and killing one another.Outcome-hundreds dead;thousands internally displaced ;business, transport and educational institutions badly affected.
Call it "Bloody Sunday".I call it a " 'Bloody Sunday' that never should have been pre-concieved".Supporters around the de facto leader are thirsty for power. They pay poor illiterate youth peanuts to come forward and do their dirty bidding which to a reasonable person seems quite chuztpah! They retract in the lounges of five star hotels and comfort of their Mercedez Benzs to leave the youth to battle it out with the police.
It is necessary to understand the Opposition leader. He comes from the minority group while the Head of State is from the majority group. From his statements you glean that it is more of President -From-Which-Tribe than a President. In my country segregation of one tribe frome the next ended the day we celebrated Independence. In Parliament, in schools,in private and public employment as well as in the security forces all of my country's tribes share equally.
I heard one of my colleagues as if he was right there (pray I know he wasn't there) say how King cared for the safety of those who were demonstrating with him.Yet he marched on ,never fearing if there was danger to himself.Does my country's example not startle you?Well, the amazing thing is that they claim to be doing these protests "in the footsteps of Dr King".
Are you still with me?Good ,'cause it gets sizzling.Dr King did support Communism(hold-Democratic Socialism). The Opposition leader does support the Socialist concept and thinks that it would be the solution that would eliminate the income inequality in my country.Just like Dr King I have studied Communism. But this philosohpy from Marx and Engels has never worked practically. We all know that America has and continues to be a Capitalist state. This leader thinks that Socialism will work in my country and is on the way of imposing an economic boycott to end Capitalism. It might also work in my country except I have this bad, pretty bad instinct that in my case, that the philospohy might work for the Opposition leader's tribe's benefit.
This is the third time that my country has been engaged in a stalemate of this kind.I hope the leaders do come to some sort of agreement .It is truly a conflict of hate and ethnicity, not of who realy lost/won the election. Both the Heads of State and Opposition ,should like Dr King, put the priorities of the my countryfolk before their own.Power, should be used,in Martin Luther King ,Jnr for "True compassion" .
